Gloria (Nelda) Robinson loved cooking sweet potato jacks and all kinds of delicious cakes. Additionally, she enjoyed making other dishes such as homemade ice cream, Brunswick stew, and chicken pot pie. Growing up in Rich Square around a lot of family allowed her to learn from talented cooks, such as her mother, as well as experiment and be creative.

When she traveled north to Philadelphia, she became a seamstress in the garment industry. Outside of work, she sewed for herself and family. Vanessa recalls her making a pair of pink hot pants. Sheila remembers her making beautiful dresses. Jonathan reminisces about the black and silver jumpsuits she made for the house warming on Briar Road in Philadelphia. Stephanie recollects sending her mom a picture of a large snake pillow that she created for her Chicago apartment. Her children still have fond memories of her sewing.

Gloria was also an avid reader who loved romances and mysteries. In her free time, she explored recipes between working in the garment factory and making a home for her family. Her love for reading inspired her children to further their education as well excel in their individual professions.

Jonathan Harvey, Stephanie Tolson, Sheila Bishop, Monica Stephens, Christina Ruda, Vanessa Elliott-White and all the of the family are thankful to God for the time they spent with her and will always cherish the memories.

Hi Family,

One of the best things about being a mom is watching your child grow and being there to support their dreams and goals.  I am excited to let you know about Lexie’s latest (BIG) goal – to become Little Miss North Carolina Central University 2018.   While Jeff and I might disagree on other teams, we both cheer and support NCCU (our alma mater).  Lexie is ready to show her Eagle Pride and represent NCCU.  Unlike other pageants, the winner will be determined based on which little girl raises the most money.  Therefore, Lexie and I are asking for your help and support.

The mission of the Little Royals Pageant is to create an experience for future Eagles that is memorable, exciting and authentic by providing an opportunity to strengthen their confidence, social skills and speaking skills.  The proceeds of the pageant goes towards providing funding for community service and cultural awareness projects, and enhancing the eagle experience.

Three ways you can help.

  • Purchase a Sponsor Ad to wish Lexie good luck in the pageant or highlight your business.  The sponsorship ad rates are:  ¼page $45, ½ page $75, Full page $125.  Sponsorship ads are due August 28th.  Email me your ad layout or I can create one for you.
  • Make a monetary donation in any amount.  Lexie’s favorite number is 8, so perhaps you can donate $8, $18, $28, $38 or any other amount.  Monetary donations are due September 11th.  Note: You donation can go toward an ad shared with several other Lexie supporters if received by August 28th.
  • Share this email with friends, family and businesses that would be interested in purchasing a sponsor ad or making a donation.   Every dollar counts.

All donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.  You can pay via cash, check, money order, paypal, or cash app.  Note: NCCU is only accepting cashier checks and money orders payable to NCCU Royal Court.  If you want to write a personal check, make it payable to Kimberly Truesdale so I can cash and turn in the money. You can mail checks to 510 Chadbourne Dr, Durham, NC 27703.  You can also contributed via paypal (paypal.me/Lexie4LilMissNCCU) or cashapp $KimberlyTruesdale

Jeff tells Lexie all that time that she can do anything because she is a Truesdale and Truesdale’s work hard to achieve their goals.  With your sponsorship and support, I know we can make Lexie’s dream of being Little Miss North Carolina Central University 2018 come true.  FYI:  The 2018 pageant to be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

Thanks for your support and help,
Lexie and Kimberly Truesdale
