Herman Slade Harvey
Herman Slade Harvey, the 5th of William's and Rebecca's children, was born on April 15, 1898 in Rich Square, NC.
He met Annie E. Tann daughter of John Thomas Tann and Isabella Ashe Tann and of this union one son was born, Rupert Varnell Tann.
On April 28, 1924 Herman married Mattie Mabel Parks daughter of Benjamin Only Parks and Ailsey Thomas Ashe Parks and of this union eight children were born; Virginia Mae, Cora Willia, Titus, Vatis Zelma, Mildred Lorraine, Calvin Mannloyd, Herbert Eugene and Dorothy Lavone.
On June 6, 1949, at the age of 51, Herman Slade Harvey died of Hypretension and Heart Disease. Herman is interred in Ashetown at the Albert Ashe/Harvey Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.
Hi Family!
My daughter-in-law Shawntell Greene called me at 4:00 am this morning. She and the girls (Priscilla, Keturah and Evelyn) were at the base to see my son SFC Michael Anthony Greene off to Iraq.
Mike"s deployment will be for about a year. The last time they were over there the deployments were extended to 15 months.
Shawntell said they were getting ready to get into formation but I got a chance to talk to him for a few minutes and am already looking forward to his return.
Mike was in Iraq about a year ago and so was my grandson, Mike's nephew, Sgt. Christopher Eric Anthony Greene. Thankfully they were stationed at the same location although not in the same unit.
It was Christopher's first time in a war zone and we all felt better that his uncle was over there to help his transition. Mike has been in the military 22 years and has also been to Desert Storm, Korea, Germany (3 times) and God only knows where else.
Christopher was stationed in Fort Drum NY and his wife Macelina was stationed in Fort Stewart GA so they were only able to spend a couple of weeks together when they were married in May 2009.
Chris left for another tour of duty in Iraq June 2009.
Macelina was re-stationed and she and her 2 daughters (Yansha and Hailey) went to Germany in July.
Chris is half-way through his tour now and with a couple of weeks R & R he flew from Iraq to Germany Saturday and will spend the holidays with his new family. He called me when he got to Germany and they were all having a ball.
I don't know if we will be lucky enough for Chris and Mike to be stationed at the same location again or not but our prayers will be with them until they both return home safely.
